You can put this solution on YOUR website! Problem 1:: A department has an annual budget of P6 billion which is divided among its 3 bureaus in the ratio of 5:3:2. how much does the bureau with the largest budget receive?
Solution 1::
Ratio of the division of budget is 5:3:2
So let the share of each bureau is 5x,3x & 2x
Also 5x + 3x + 2x = 6 billion
i.e. 10x = 6 billion
i.e. x = 6/10
Share of the bureau with the largest budget is 5x
So its share = 5*6/10
=3 billion
Problem 2:: The selling price of a sala set and a dining set is P42,000. if the selling price of the sala set is P4,000 more than the cost of dining set. how much is the sala set?
Solution 2::
Let the selling price of dining set = X
SO the selling price of sala set = X + 4000
Also their total selling price is 42000
So X + (X + 4000) = 42000
2X + 4000 = 42000
2X = 42000 - 4000
2X = 38000
X = 38000/2
X = 19000
So selling price of sala set = 19000 + 4000
= 23000
Problem 3:: Mr. Villar owns 4/10 of a company. if he sold 3/6 of his share to a co-stockholder. How much of the company does Mr. villar still owned?
Solution::
Let total value of the company = X
Original share of the company Mr. Villar is having is 4/10 of X, i.e. 4X/10
Share sold by Mr. Villar = 3/6 of 4X/10 i.e 12X/60 OR X/5
Share left with Mr. Villar = 4X/10 - X/5
=
=
=
So Mr. Villar still owned 1/5 of the company.
Problem 4:: The sum of Denia's and terry's savings is P320,000. if denia owns P190,000. how much more does she has than terry?
Solution::
Savings of Denia(D) + Savings of Terry(T) = 320000
190000 + T = 320000
So T = 320000 - 190000
T = 130000
So Denia has (190000 - 130000), i,e, 60000 more than Terry.
Problem 5:: Bella receives a monthly pension of P19,000 every 5th day of the month. she regularly saves 1/4 of this in the bank and spends the remaining for her daily needs budget of P475.00 on what date of the month she will have P4,750.00 left?
Solution::
Savings of Bella = 1/4 of 19000 i.e. 4750
Remaining money for her expenditure = 19000 - 4750 = 14250
She withdraws P475 daily from the bank for her daily budget, So money left in her account on 5th day of the month = (4750) + (14250 - 475)
= (4750) + (13775)
Using the formula to find the last term of an 'Arithmetic Progression' whose first term is 13775, last term is 'Zero' and common difference is (-475), we can find the number of terms in it.
i.e. Last term = First term + (n - 1)*common-difference
=> 0 = 13775 + (n - 1)*(-475)
=> 0 = 13775 - 475n + 475
=> 475n = 14250
=> n = 14250/475
=> n = 30
So after 30 days, she will have P4750 in her account. This day definitely comes in the next month and the date depends on the number of days in current month.
