Question 59994: I need help working out these equations. My teacher made these problems up.
-8+t/3=7
4(x+3)=20
4y+3
_____ =9
7
Answer by uma(370) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1. -8 + t/3 = 7
multiplying by 3 throughout,
-8(3) +3(t/3) = 7(3)
==> -24 + t = 21
==> -24 + 24 + t = 21 + 24 [adding 24 to both the sides]
==> t = 45
2. 4(x+3) = 20
This can be worked out in 2 ways
method 1:
4(x+3) = 20
Dividing by 4 throughout,
4(x+3)/4 = 20/4
==> x+3 = 5
==> x + 3 - 3 = 5 - 3[Subtracting 3 from both the sides]
==> x = 2
method 2:
4(x+3) = 20
==> 4x + 12 = 20 [removing the parenthesis by multiplyingby 4]
==> 4x + 12 - 12 = 20 - 12
==> 4x = 8
==> 4x/4 = 8/4
==> x = 2
3. (4y+3)/7= 9
Multiplying by 7 both the sides,
4y + 3 = 63
==> 4y + 3 - 3 = 63 - 3[Subtracting 3 from both the sides]
==> 4y = 60
==>4y/4 = 60/4
==> y = 15
Good Luck!!!
