The biker is traveling at 16 mph and the walker is traveling at 4 mph and the biker arrives 1 hour before the walker does. How long was the biker on the road, how long was the walker on the road, and what was the distance between where they started and where they stopped? You can put this solution on YOUR website! If a biker and a walker both leave the same location at the same time and are both going to the same destination.
The biker is traveling at 16 mph and the walker is traveling at 4 mph and the biker arrives 1 hour before the walker does.
How long was the biker on the road, how long was the walker on the road, and what was the distance between where they started and where they stopped?
:
Let t = time the biker was on the road
then
(t+1) = time the walker was
:
Write a distance equation, (both went the same distance)
16t = 4(t+1)
16t = 4t + 4
16t - 4t = 5
12t = 4
t = 4/12
t = hr or 20 min, bike time
then obviously: 1 hrs, walk time
:
Find the distance
1/3 * 16 = 5.33 miles is the distance
:
We can confirm this by finding the walker distance
1.33 * 4 = 5.33 miles
