3x+2y=12
I am taking an Algebra class online and I am having problems understanding this unit. I am to do all odd questions because answers are in the back of the book. I am using the 2006 book Intermediate Algebra Third Edition by Alan S. Tussy and R. David Gustafson.
I attempted the problem by dividing 3x, then by dividing with 2y, but I do not come up with the correct answer of -3/2. I also can't figure out why this is negative. Could someone please help me? Thanks. I was okay until this whole slope of a line unit, now I am so confused.

Find the slope of the line determined by each equation.
3x+2y=12
When asked to determine the slope of a linear equation, we put the equation into slope intercept form:highlight%28y=mx%2Bb%29, m=slope and b=y-intercept.
-3x+3x+2y=-3x+12
0+2y=-3x+12
2y=-3x+12
2y%2F2=%28-3%2F2%29x%2B12%2F2
y=highlight%28-3%2F2%29x%2B6 The slope, m=-3/2.
