Question 597303: Dividing a number by 3 is the same as subtracting 10 from twice the number. What is the number?
What I've done:
Let x be a number.
x / 3 = 2x - 10
(multiply 3 on both sides)
x = 2x - 30
(subtract 2x from each side)
-x = -30
(divide both sides by -1)
x = 30
Is this correct?

What I've done:
Let x be a number.
x / 3 = 2x - 10
(multiply 3 on both sides)
------------------
x = 6x - 30
5x = 30
x = 6

No.

Let's start over.

is correct, then the idea of multiplying both sides by 3 is correct, but
