Question 596155: Hello,
I have problems with word problems and I always have. Now I am in Algebra I and so they are harder. I have tried so hard on them but I still don't understand them. If you could give me some tips on how to solve algebraic word problems I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(1)
Look at the unknown or unknowns that they are looking for.
Right away, make the statements:
Let ( first unknown quantity ) = ( some letter )
Let ( second unknown quantity ) = ( some different letter )
etc.
Choose the letters so they are the 1st letter of the unknown quantity ( usually )
(2)
There are categories of word problems.
Decide what the category is. Some of the categories are:
(a) Mixture problems
(b) related rate problems ( 2 planes, 2 cars, etc. )
(c) Work problems ( how long to finish a job with 2 people, etc )
That's the majority of word problems
-------------------------------
There are critical thing to grasp about each category of problem
I solve a lot of these types, and if you go through my solutions,
I think you'll get how I did them. Click on "our tutors". I am close
to the top of the list: "josmiceli".
Then click on my solutions, and scroll through until you find
the general category you need. Hope this helps.
