You can put this solution on YOUR website! Mike has a 93% average in test, 91% average in quizzes. If the teacher weights the grade as follows: Tests - 65%; Quizzes - 25%; Final - 10%. What is this student's current average? What does the student need to earn on the final in order to earn an A?
:
The reason I haven't answered this until now is that I don't know what the minimum is for an A. I am going to assume that a 90-100 is an A. If the low for an A is 94, just change the other side to a 94 and solve. Everything else is the same.
:
Let the final be: x
.65(93)+.25(91)+.10x=90
60.45+22.75+.10x=90
83.2+.10x=90
-83.2+83.2+.10x=90-83.2
.10x=6.8
.10x/.10=6.8/.10
x=68
The student needs to get a 68% to have a 90% average. For some classes, that is an A.
Happy Calculating!!!
