Question 596136: I am working on this practice exercise: 4sqrt%285%2F6%29+-+sqrt%283%2F10%29 The book's answer is 17 sqrt30(numerator) with 30 as the denominator. I get the 17, I have the denominator of 30 but I'm not coming up with the sqrt30, part of the numerator. I know I am doing something wrong in my process and would like to know what. You can put this solution on YOUR website!
4sqrt%285%2F6%29-sqrt%283%2F10%29 Find the LCD of the fractions, that's 30, and simplify:
4sqrt%2825%2F30%29-sqrt%289%2F30%29 Take the square root of both numerators.
4%2A5sqrt%281%2F30%29-3sqrt%281%2F30%29 Simplify.
20sqrt%281%2F30%29-3sqrt%281%2F30%29 Subtract.
17sqrt%281%2F30%29 Rationalise the denominator.
17sqrt%281%2F30%29%28sqrt%2830%2F30%29%29 Simplify.
17sqrt%2830%29%2F30
