Question 595823: Please help me find an equation of the line through (-2,4) which is perpendicular to the line y-3x=2 Found 2 solutions by math33, mananth:Answer by math33(31) (Show Source):
The slope of a line perpendicular to the above line will be the negative reciprocal - 1/3
m1*m2=-1
The slope of the required line will be - 1/3
m= - 1/3 ,point ( -2 , 4 )
Find b by plugging the values of m & the point in
y=mx+b
4 = 2/ 3 + b
b= 10/3
m= - 1/3
The required equation is y =- 1/ 3 x+10/ 3
