the x and y intercepts (where the line crosses the two axes) are easy to determine, and the two points allow the line to be drawn
the y-intercept is the value of y, when x equals zero (and vice versa)
looking at the 1st equation
___ ignoring the x-term (because it equals zero) ___ 4y = 2 ___ y = 1/2 ___ this is the y-intercept
___ ignoring the y-term ___ 3x = 2 ___ x = 2/3 ___ this is the x-intercept
___ the line connecting the two points is the graph of the equation
looking at the 2nd equation
___ ignoring the x-term ___ -y = 1 ___ y = -1 ___ this is the y-intercept
___ ignoring the y-term ___ x = 1 ___ this is the x-intercept
