Question 594486: How many square cm are in the greatest area that can be enclosed by a rectangle whose perimeter is 200 cm? I made a guess of 198 cm squared (99 cm x 2 cm), is this correct? Answer by AnlytcPhil(1806) (Show Source):
198 cm squared (99 cm x 2 cm) is not possible for that has a perimeter
of 202 cm.
It could either be 99 cm squared (99 cm x 1 cm) or
196 sm squared (98 cm x 2 cm)
But those are both small in area compared to the rectangle with the
greatest area:
The largest rectangle in area is 2500 cm squared (50 cm x 50 cm), which is
when the rectangle is a square.
