Question 593547: Solve 8 to the power of the square root of 7
(without a calculator)
Sorry, not sure how to type that out on this keyboard!
Calculator shows 245.104631
If I apply what I know to solve this, I always get 256 not 245, help! For my daughter's pre-cal test, I'm STUMPED!! Answer by jsmallt9(3758) (Show Source):
With an irrational square root involved I'm going to assume that a calculator is allowed. If so, then since most calculators (and calculator computer programs) have a "^" for exponentiation and have "(" and ")" keys to support use of parentheses, you can simply enter:
8^()
into the calculator.
In response to the note in your thank you message...
I have given this some thought and I cannot figure out a way to do this without finding some kind of root and/or logarithm at some point.
If I do think of something I will let you know. On the other hand, if you find a solution, I'd appreciate hearing about it. (Just "thank" me again.)
