You can put this solution on YOUR website!
traveling downstream the boat went 12 mph, upstream it went 2 mph what is the speed of the boat and current
**
let x=speed of boat in still water
let c=speed of current
net speed of boat downstream=x+c
net speed of boat upstream=x-c
..
x+c=12
x-c=2
add
2x=14
x=7
c=x-2=5
..
ans:
speed of boat in still water=7mph
speed of current=5 mph

traveling downstream the boat went 12 mph, upstream it went 2 mph what is the speed of the boat and current?
------------
The boat's speed is the average (12 + 2)/2 = 7 mi/hr
The current is the difference 12 - 7 = 5 mi/hr
