Question 592321: Hello. I need to know how you multiply this expression: (x-2)/(x+3) * (4x+12)/(6). Now, I've gotten to the step where the problem is simplified to (x-2)/(1) * (4)/(6). I don't really know how to go about multiplying that expression, so could you please help? I have a big math test tomorrow and need to understand these concepts before it's too late. Thank you!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
multiply this expression: (x-2)/(x+3) * (4x+12)/(6).
:
%28x-2%29%2F%28x%2B3%29 * %284x%2B12%29%2F%286%29
Factoring will help here before we multiply
%28x-2%29%2F%28x%2B3%29 * 4%28x%2B3%29%2F%286%29
We can cancel (x+3) and then we have
(x - 2) * 4%2F6
Reduce the fraction, then multiply
(x - 2) * 2%2F3 = 2%28x-2%29%2F3 or %282x-4%29%2F3
:
Generally you multiply the numerators, and multiply the denominators. then reduce the fraction
But factoring and canceling can greatly simplify the operation
