Question 590647: Ally and Hakeem had a total of $44. After Ally Spent 1/4 of her money and Hakeem spent $5.00, the ratio of Ally's money to Hakeem's money became 1:2. how much money did Hakeem have in the begining?
So what i did was multipled 44 by 1/4 and got 11, then i add 11 and 5 and got 16, that's how much they spent together then i subtracted 44 from 16. which got me 28. Then i divided 28 and 2 and got 14 then i add 11 and 14 and got that ally had a total of 25 and Hakeem had a total of 19. so therefore Hakeem had a total of $19 in the begining. is that right Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Ally and Hakeem had a total of $44.
After Ally Spent 1/4 of her money and Hakeem spent $5.00, the ratio of Ally's money to Hakeem's money became 1:2.
how much money did Hakeem have in the beginning?
:
Let's do it this way
:
a + h = 44
h = (44-a)
:
If A spend 1/4 of his money, .75a remains
: =
Cross multiply
2(.75a) = (h - 5)
1.5a = h - 5
replace h with (44-a)
1.5a = (44 - a) - 5
1.5a + a = 44 - 5
2.5a = 39
a = 39/2.5
a = 15.60 A's money to begin with
then
h = 44 - 15.60
h = 28.40, H's money to begin with
