Question 5890: This question is on elimination...and it is also my last question... i just wanted you to check my answers to make sure that they were right.
-1/3x-4/3y=-2
1/3x-2/3y=4
My answer was (4,-4) Is this right?
thank you so so much!~ Answer by Abbey(339) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! plug in 4,-4 to verify: not true (incorrect answer)
multiply both equations by 3 to clear the denominators:
-x-4y=-6
x-2y=12
add them together:
-6y=6
y=-1
substitute -1 in for y:
-x-4y=-6
-x-4(-1)=-6
-x+4=-6
-x=-10
x=10
substitute x=10 and y=-1 into the other equation to verify:
x-2y=12
10-2(-1)=12
10+2=12 true statement, so the solution is (10,-1)
