Question 58761: I am having problems understanding parabola grafting. Example, if I am given a problem that says:
graph y=-2x (to the second power)
How do I set up my table of solutions for x and y?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Y=-2X^2
SET X=0 THE
Y=2*0^2
Y=O SO WHEN X=0 THEN Y=0
SET X=1 THEN
Y=-2(1)^2
Y=-2*1
Y=-2 SO WHEN X=1 THEN Y=-2
SET X=2 THEN
Y=-2(2)^2
Y=-2(4)
Y=-8 SO WHEN X=2THEN Y=-8

graph y=-2x^2
How do I set up my table of solutions for x and y?
----------
If x=-2, y=-2(-2)^2=-2(4)=-8
If x=-1, y=-2(-1)^2=-2(1)=-2
If x=0, y=-2(0)^2=0
If x=1, y=-2(1)^2=-2
If x=2, y=-2(2)^2=-8
This should be enough to show you the general shape
of the parabola.
