P(Part) = W(Whole) x %(Percent)
Since your missing the whole, divide both sides with percent to let W(Whole) alone.
(P / %) = ([W X %] / %)
then...
P / % = W
So, to find the whole, get the whole by dividing the Part by the Percent.
The solution would be:
98 / 40% = W
then...
98 / .04 = W
The answer would be 2450.
Since 98 / .04 is equal to 9800 / 4. 9800 / 4 is just the simplified form of 98 / .04.
98 / .04 = 980 / .4 = 9800/4
