Question 586596: three consecutive intefers are such that the sum of the second and the third is one less than three times the first. find three integers
Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = first
x + 1 = 2nd
x + 2 = 3rd

x + 1 + x + 2 = 3x - 1 {sum of second and third is one less than three times first}
2x + 3 = 3x - 1 {combined like terms}
3 = x - 1 {subtracted 2x from both sides}
x = 4 {added 1 to both sides}
x + 1 = 5 {substituted 4, in for x, into x + 1}
x + 2 = 6 {substituted 4, in for x, into x + 2}

4,5, and 6 are the three consecutive integers
