Question 586523: x^2-6x+5=0
Answer by tw23279(14) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Factor!
Think of things that adds up to -6 and multiply to 5.
-5 and -1 adds up to -6 and multiply to +5.
So...
(x-5)(x-1) = 0
And we can use the algebraic identity that if x times y = 0, then x OR y OR both must be 0.
x-5 = 0 OR x-1 = 0
x=5 or x=1
