Then the larger number is:x+18
sum means +
twice means *2

The equation to solve is:
x+2(x+18)=45
x+2x+36=45
3x+36=45
3x+36-36=45-36
3x=9
3x/3=9/3
x=3
The smaller number is: 3
The larger number is: x+18=3+18=21
