the wet well of a pump station is 6ft wide by 6ft long. with one pump running and discharging 280gpm, the wet well level was observed to rise 1ft in 3 minutes 15 second. what was the rate of flow into the well?
:
Change 3 min 15 sec to 3.25 min
:
Find the volume of water 6' by 6' by 1': 36 cu/ft
Change to gallons: 7.481 * 36 = 269.3 gallons
:
Also had to replace the outflow of 280 gpm, running for 3.25 minutes
3.25 * 280 = 910 gallons
:
Total amt of water pumped: 910 + 269.3 = 1179.3 gallons
:
Find the rate of the pump
1179.3%2F3.25 ~ 363 gpm rate of flow into the well
