You can put this solution on YOUR website! y > x
y < -x + 1
The 1st one is easy, whatever value you have for x, it's the same for y
:
y < -x + 1
:
x | y
------
-2|+3
-1|+2
0 |+1
+1|0
+2|-1
:
Plot both equations from x=-2 to x=+2, you should have graph that looks like this: Green line is y = -x - 1; Red line is y = 1
:
:
but they were not given as equations, but as inequalities. When it says y > x
they want you to shade the area above the red line.
:
When is says y < -x-1, they want you to shade the area below the green line
:
Now they want you to note the area that is shaded by both, note there is a
trianglular area on left which is shaded by both equations.
:
Note the coordinates x = -1, y = -2 is inside this triangular area.
:
Does this make sense to you? It may help if you print this out and shaded the
areas as I indicated here.
