Question 584016: find the length of the segment joining the given points and the midpoint of the segment.
(2sqrt5-1,4+6sqrt11)(2sqrt5+1,4-6sqrt11)
the answer is
d=2 sqrt 397
midpoint is (2 sqrt5, 4)
when I foil 2 sqrt5 +1 times its self do I get 5x4=20 then add 1 or 2 to it?
It is sad when I have the answer that I can't do it but this one is very confusing to me.
thank you!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! find the length of the segment joining the given points and the midpoint of the segment.
(2sqrt5-1,4+6sqrt11)(2sqrt5+1,4-6sqrt11)
the answer is
d=2 sqrt 397
-----
d = sqrt[[(2sqrt(5)-1-(2sqrt(5)+1)]^2 + [(4+6sqrt(11)-(4-sqrt(11))]^2]
----
d = sqrt[(-2)^2 + (2sqrt(11))^2]
----
d = sqrt[4 + 4*11]
d = sqrt[48]
d = 16sqrt(3)
==========================
Midpoint = (sum of 1st coordinates)/2 , (sum of 2nd coordinate)/2)
Midpoint = ((4sqrt(5)/2 , 8/2)
Midpoint = (2sqrt(5),4)
==================================
when I foil 2 sqrt5 +1 times its self do I get 5x4=20 then add 1 or 2 to it?
(2sqrt(5) + 1)(2sqrt(5)+1)
F = 4*5
O = 2sqrt(5)
I = 2sqrt(5)
L = 1
---
Combine to get: 21 + 4sqrt(5)
================================

Stan H.
