You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In his pocket Chip has 4 more dimes than quarters. If the quarters and dimes total $2.85, how many quarters and dimes does he have?
-------------
Let number of quarters be "x"; value of these is 25x cents
Number of dimes is "x+4"; value of these is 10(x+4)=10x+40 cents
-----------
EQUATION:
value + value = 285 cents
25x+10x+40=285
35x=245
x= 7 (number of quarters)
x+4 = 11 (number of dimes)
