Divide the coefficient on by the coefficient on . Since both the and variables are on the same side of the equals sign, take the negative of the quotient to get the slope. Do this process for each of your equations.

If the slopes are equal, the lines are parallel.

If the slopes are negative reciprocals, the lines are perpendicular.

Otherwise, the lines are neither parallel nor perpendicular.
