Question 57974: 92. Winter wheat. While finding the amount of seed needed to plant his three square wheat fields, Hank observed that the side of one field was 1 kilometer longer than the side of the smallest field and that the side of the largest field was 3 kilometers longer than the side of the smallest field. If the total area of the three fields is 38 kilometers, then what is the area of each field?
i think it falls under this catagory?? thanks

You can put this solution on YOUR website! this question would fall under word problems,
because there are 3 fields, you can state that all 3 fields =38 when squared,
(3x)^2=38
take the square route of both sides,
3x=6.16
divide both sides by 3
x=2.0
so the smallest field is 2km 4km squared
the middle field is 2+1 or 3km long 9km squared
and the last field is 2+3 or 5km long. 25km squared
the total area when you add your answers is 38km squared
