Question 578047: Nielsen Ratings
Data Given:
Rating Viewers
13.5 21,341
12.5 20,929
11.5 19,147
10.9 17,338
10.0 16,505
9.3 15,792
9.2 14,651
8.9 14,567
8.5 13,915
8.3 13,406
8.3 12,844
Questions to be answered:
Using the information that each rating is a percent of Tv homes in the US, and the numbers of viewers for each show compute the approximate number of total viewers. Once you have an approximate total number, compute the percent of the total audience used in the sample.
To answer the first part of the question, I divided the viewers ie, 21,341 by it's corresponding rating ie 13.5%. I did that for each of the listings to get the approximate number of total viewers for each show. I'm not quite sure where to go from there.. Please help if you can, thanks in advance.. Carrie

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Nielsen Ratings
Data Given:
Rating Viewers
13.5 21,341
12.5 20,929
11.5 19,147
10.9 17,338
10.0 16,505
9.3 15,792
9.2 14,651
8.9 14,567
8.5 13,915
8.3 13,406
8.3 12,844
Questions to be answered:
Using the information that each rating is a percent of Tv homes in the US, and the numbers of viewers for each show compute the approximate number of total viewers.
That number should be more than 170,000; not 21000.
-----------------
Once you have an approximate total number, compute the percent of the total audience used in the sample.
Example using the 1st line of DATA:
Percent of viewers in the US = 13.5% ; # of viewers 21,341
Let approximate number of total viewers be "x"
0.135x = 21341
x = 21341/0.135 = 158,081
---
Do the same for each line of DATA.
