You can put this solution on YOUR website! (2x^2+11x-5)/(x+6)
This can be solved using sythetic or long division, since you didn't specify, I'm going to use synthetic division since it's almost impossible for me to show you long division in this format.
x+6=0 --> x=-6--> put -6 outside of the bar, put the coefficients in decending order in the inside like this:
-6|2 11 -5
::|
----------- Bring down the 2
:
-6|2 11 -5
::|
----------- Multiply -6*2 and put it under 11
:::2
:
-6|2 11 -5
__| -12
---------- Add 11 and -12 and put that result under them
:::2 -1
:
-6|2 11 -5
__| -12 6
-------------Multiply -6*-1 and put that result under -5
:::2 -1
-6|2 11 -5
__| -12 6
------------- Add -5 and 6 and put the result under them.
:::2 -1 1
The 2 and -1 are coefficients of one degree less that waht you started with:x and x^0 or 1, the 1 is the remainder and is written over the x+6 that you are dividing by. So your solution is:
I hope that's clearer than mud. It's hard to explain division online.
Happy Calculating!!!
