I can't make much sense of your last statement, Assume that you want to find the angle (A) from the tip of the shadow to the top of the totem pole
:
We can use the tangent of A here %28side+opposite%29%2F%28side+adjacent%29
tan(A) = 100%2F249
tan(A) = .4016
Find the tan^-1; of .4016
A = 21.88 degrees
