Question 574046: Please help me solve this function?
f(x)=((x^2+4x-7)-5)/(x - 2) I understand everything until I get to the point where we simplify and we have f(x)=((x^2+4x-12)/(x - 2)=x+6 When I do it I end up with x+8.
I cancelled out an x in x^2 and x and a 2 in 4x and a 2 in 12. I don't understand how to get to x+6. I would truly appreciate your assistance.
Sincerely,
Grimilda

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve:
f%28x%29+=+%28%28x%5E2%2B4x-7%29-5%29%2F%28x-2%29 Simplify the numerator.
f%28x%29+=+%28x%5E2%2B4x-12%29%2F%28x-2%29 Factor the numerator.
f%28x%29+=+cross%28%28x-2%29%29%28x%2B6%29%2Fcross%28%28x-2%29%29 Cancel the (x-2)'s.
f%28x%29+=+x%2B6
