The perimeter of a pentagon is the length of all the sides added together. Picture a 5 sided garden fence (weird shape, but still, you get the picture). How much fence do you need? They say all the sides are of equal length so that helps.

If one side is length X, then adding all 5 sides to get the perimeter is 5X

5X = 40 yards (a big garden ;-)
X = 8 yards

So the length of each side of the pentagon is 8 yards.
