Question 571744: Hi I'm doing systems of linear equations & problem solving in math 103. Solving applications of three equations.
Geometry. In triangles ABC, the measures of angle B is three times that of angle A. The measure of angle C is 20 degrees more than that of angle A. Find the angle measures
I have such a hard time with word problems and finding the right equations. I would apprexiate some help.
So far this is what I understand. I don't know if I'm correct. A+B+C=180
B=3A
C=A(.20)

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I agree with A+B+C=180 and B=3A
However the translation for "The measure of angle C is 20 degrees more than that of angle A" is C=A+20
You get the system of equations
system%28A%2BB%2BC=180%2C+B=3A%2C+C=A%2B20%29
Substituting the expressions for B and C from the second and third equations into the first equation, you get
A%2B3A%2B%28A%2B20%29=180--> A%2B3A%2BA%2B20=180 --> 5A%2B20=180 --> 5A=160 --> A=32
Now you can substitute the value found for A in the last two equations to find B and C
B=3%2A32 --> B=96
C=32%2B20 --> C=52
