Draw a number line.
Determine a point 0 and a point 1.
Draw a vertical at "1" that is "1" high.
Draw a line segment from 0 to the top of that
vertical line.
Using 0 as the center pt. and the distance
to the top of the vertical as a radius, draw
an arc down to a point P on the number line
The distance from 0 to P is sqrt2.

Draw a vertical a P that is "1" high.
Connect 0 to the top of that vertical.
Using 0 as the center and the distance
to the top of the vertical as a radius, draw
an arc down to a point Q on the number line.
The distance from 0 to Q is sqrt3.
