Question 571632: I have 15 coins;only pennies and dimes. The value of the coins is 80 cents. How many pennies and dimes do I have? Find your answer by creating a graph by using the X and Y-intercepts of the two equations.
I am in Algebra I. I have graphed these two equations on a 12x9 grid multiple times with no conclusion.X=Pennies and Y=Dimes. X+Y=15 and 0.01X+0.1Y=0.80
I cannon get a definate solution to the problem. Please help

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
solving the equations algebraically ___ p + d = 15 and p + 10d = 80

subtracting the equations ___ p + 10d - (p + d) = 80 - 15 ___ 9d = 65 ___ d = 7 2/9
___ this would make p equal to ___ 15 - 7 2/9 or 7 7/9

since these "fractional" coins do not exist ; there seems to be an inconsistency in the problem
