You can put this solution on YOUR website! A stamp collector has 4 cent, 3 cent and 2 cent stamps. If he has 3 more 3 cent stamps than 4 cent stamps and 4 less 2 cent stamps than 4 cent stamps and the total face value is 64 cent, how man of each kind has he in his collection? ---------------
 Let number of 4 cent stamps be "x"; Value of these is 4x cents
 Number 3 cent stamps is "x+3" ; Value of these is 3(x+3)=3x+9 cents
 Number of 2 cent stamps is "x-4" ; Value of these is 2(x-4)=2x-8 cents
 EQUATION:
 value + value + value = 64 cents
 4x+3x+9+2x-8=64
 9x+1=64
 9x=63
 x=7 (number of 4 cent stamps)
 x+3=10 (number of 3 cent stamps)
 x-4=3 (number of 2 cent stamps)
 Cheers,
 Stan H.
