You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a right triangle has a perimeter of 1400. The hypotenuse is 600. What are the lengths of the other two sides?
**
let x=length of one of the legs
1400-600-x=800-x=length of other leg
By Pythagorean Theorem:
600^2=x^2+(800-x)^2
360000=x^2+640000-1600x+x^2
2x^2-1600x+280000=0
x^2-800x+140000=0
solve by quadratic formula:
x+=+%28-b+%2B-+sqrt%28+b%5E2-4%2Aa%2Ac+%29%29%2F%282%2Aa%29+
a=1, b=-800, c=140000
x=541.421
or
x=258.579
ans:
longer leg=541.421
other leg= 258.579
