Hi Ashley,
Driving down a mountain, Tom finds that he has descended 1800 ft. in elevation by the time he is 3.25 mi horizontally away from the top of the mountain. I need to find the slope of his descent to the nearest hundredth.
Slope=m=rise%2Frun
His "rise" is -1800 ft because he went down (descended) 1800 ft.
His "run"=3.25 mi
We need the units to match, there are 5280 ft in a mile, so his run is:3.25(5280)ft=17,160 ft.
slope=%28-1800ft%29%2F%2817160ft%29
slope=-.1048
slope=highlight%28-.10%29
