substitute the 6 in for x.. this makes +2%28x-y%29=+8+ into +2%286-y%29=8+. now use distributive property and multiply your 2 by everything in (). +12-2y=+8+ then subtract 12 from both sides of the equation (12-2y) -12 and 8-12. giving you +-2y=+-4+ then divide by -2... y = 2
