12y%2B21=9y Start with the given equation.


12y=9y-21 Subtract 21 from both sides.


12y-9y=-21 Subtract 9y from both sides.


3y=-21 Combine like terms on the left side.


y=%28-21%29%2F%283%29 Divide both sides by 3 to isolate y.


y=-7 Reduce.
