You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If two inlet pipes are both open, they can fill a pool in 1 hour and 12 minutes. One of the pipes can fill the pool by itself in 2 hours. How long would it take the other pipe to fill the pool by itself?
--------------
Pipes together DATA:
time to fill = 72 min/job ; rate = 1/72 job/min
----------
One pipe alone DATA:
time to fill = 120 min/job ; rate = 1/120 job/min
-------------
2nd pipe alone DATA:
time to fill = x min/job ; rate = 1/x job/min
-------------
EQUATION:
one pipe rate + other pipe rate = together rate
1/120 + 1/x = 1/72
(x+120)/120x = 1/72
120x= 72x+8640
48x=8640
x=180 minutes
----------------
2nd pipe alone would take 180 min or 3 hours to fill the pool.
