Question 564374: Farmer Fred had a square field with sides of 525 feet. He wants to build a fence down one diagnal of the field to separate it into two equal parts. How many feet of fencing will he need to purchase? Show two methods to find the solution. Answer by ad_alta(240) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Use the Pythagorean theorem to get the length of the diagonal (d): d = sqrt(2*525^2)=525*sqrt(2). He should probably get 743 ft to be safe. As for a second method, you could go outside with a ruler and measure it yourself! ;)
