Let s=the sides of the square
Using the pythagorean theorem, we have
s^2+s^2=16^2
2s^2=256
s^2=128
Now we know that the area of a square Is
A=s*s=s^2 and that equals 128 sq ft
Then the cost of painting would (1/2 dollar)(128)=64 dollars
