Present age of Michael = m
Present age of father = f
michael is 25 years younger than his father
m=f-25.........(1)
The sum of their ages is 53
m+f=53
Put the value of m from (1) to above equation
f-25+f=53
2f-25=53
2f=53+25
2f=78
2f/2=78/2
f=39
Put the value of f in (1)
m=f-25.........(1)
m=39-25
m=14

Present age of Michael = m = 14 years old
Present age of father = f = 39 years old
