Question 560951: Can someone please help me in figureing this out.
The owner of a gourmet coffee shop wants to create 200 pounds of a special blend of coffee to sell at $8.15 per pound. He also wants to use all 80 pounds of the $6.50 blend he has on hand. How expensive should the coffee be that he uses for the remaining 120 pounds?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
coffee type I ----------- $6.50---------80 pounds
coffee type II -----------$x------------120 pounds
Mixture------------------$8.15----------200 pounds
80*6.50 +120*x=200*8.15
120x= 200*8.15-80*6.50
120x = 1110
/120
x= $9.25

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the cost/pound of the remaining coffee = +x+
Cost of remaining coffee = +120x+
Cost of $6.50 / pound blend = +80%2A6.5+=+520+
------------
+%28+120x+%2B+520+%29+%2F+200+=+8.15++
+120x+%2B+520+=+8.15%2A200+
+120x+%2B+520+=+1630+
+120x+=+1630+-+520+
+120x+=+1110+
+x+=+9.25+
The cost/pound of the remaining coffee = $9.25
check answer:
+%28+120%2A9.25+%2B+520+%29+%2F+200+=+8.15++
+%28+1110+%2B+520+%29+%2F+200+=+8.15+
+1630+%2F+200+=+8.15+
+1630+=+8.15%2A200+
+1630+=+1630+
OK
