3x%2B2y=-4
x%2B2y=-8
Move x over to other side
2y=-x-8
Usually you would have to divide by two, however since you can directly substitute into the other equation, there is no need.
Substitute -x-8 for 2y the first equation
3x-x-8=-4
Simplify
2x-8=-4
Move -8 over by adding eight
2x=4
x=2
thus
y=3
To solve for y plug x into any of the original equations
