You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1) 2x + y = 1 Rewrite as: y = 1 - 2x and substitute into equation 2)
2) 10x - 4y = 2
2a) 10x - 4(1 - 2x) = 2 Simplify and solve for x.
10x - 4 + 8x = 2 Collect like-terms.
18x - 4 = 2 Add 4 to both sides.
18x = 6 Divide both sides by 18.
x = 6/18 = 1/3
y = 1 - 2x
y = 1 - 2(1/3)
y = 1 - 2/3
y = 1/3
Your answer should be: (1/3, 1/3)
The verification is left as an exercise for the student.
