Question 55630: Two isosceles triangles have the same base length. The legs of one of the triangles are twice as long as the legs of the other. Find the lengths of the sides of the triangles if their perimeters are 23 cm and 41 cm.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let y represent the base
Let x represent the side length
EQUATION:
x+x+y=23
2x+y=23
y=23-2x
EQUATION 2:
2x+2x+y=41
SUBSITUTE FOR Y:
4x+(23-2x)=41
2x=18
x=9
y=23-2(9)
y=5
Hence, the length of the sides are 9 and 2(9)=18cm
