You can put this solution on YOUR website! Tammy's Gourmet Coffee Shop mixes French vanilla coffee, which sells for $9.50 per pound, with hazelnut coffee, which sells for $7.00 per pound. The mix, called Croissant blend sells for $8.50 per pound. If Tammy wishes to make 20 pounds of the blend, how many pounds of each should she use?
-----------------
Let amount of French coffee be "x" ; Value of this is 9.50x dollars
Amount of hazelnut coffee is "20-x"; Value of this is 7(20-x)=140-7x dollars
Amount of mix is 20 lbs. ; Value of this is 8.50(20)=170
EQUATION:
value + value = value
9.5x + 140-7x = 170
2.5x=30
x=12 lbs. (amount of French coffee)
20-x=20-12= 8 lbs (amount of hazelnut coffee)
Cheers,
Stan H.
