Question 5546: I am a distance learner and I am having difficulty with an equation that my book does not give examples of. The equation reads:
X/2 + 2y =9
2x-y = 18
How do I solve this type of equation? Please help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
X/2 + 2y =9 --> multiply it by 4, because i do not want to work with fractions.
2x-y = 18

2x + 8y = 36
2x - y = 18

Subtract the 2 equations, to give 9y = 18
so y = 18/9
y = 2

Hence, 2x-2 = 18
2x = 20
so x = 20/2
x = 10

check in other equation: 10/2 + 2(2)
5 + 4
--> 9 which is the correct answer for that equation.

so my answers are correct.
